Recover a retained rule set

Export before major work

Keep a CSV and an independent WordPress backup. Retained snapshots, exports, privacy controls and recovery remain available when Pro is unavailable.

Review the retained snapshot

Open RedirectNest → Redirects → Workflow & recovery. Under Restore recent rules, review the saved date, label and rule count. Expand the intended dated snapshot, select Replace current rules with this snapshot and choose Restore rules. Restoration replaces the entire current rule set; this screen does not preview the individual saved rules. Rule history retains up to twenty snapshots in both editions; Pro also retains ten previous-project reports. Reports and snapshots expire after 90 days when scheduled cleanup runs.

If the live rules changed while the page was open, reload and review the current state before restoring. Recovery is a change to the active rules, so it should not overwrite a newer edit you have not seen.

Pro also offers an expandable Restore a previous rule set section below the migration workspace and its Project tools. Select the retained snapshot and explicitly confirm replacing the current rules. Both recovery paths restore plugin rules only.

After a 0.9.6 repair batch, inspect newer changes before replacing the whole ruleset with a snapshot. Content cleanup has its own single-page revision recovery; a rule snapshot never restores page content. Do not downgrade below 0.7.1 after its storage upgrade.

Test after restoring

Retest old and new URLs. Plugin recovery does not restore browser or CDN caches, server rules, content or unrelated database changes. Export any retained evidence needed for a client handoff.

Reverse an eligible retained change batch

Pro records up to 20 recent change-batch receipts for 90 days while it is active. Choose a batch and preview its reversal. Both original snapshots must still be retained: the shared snapshot store keeps only recent generations, so a 90-day receipt does not guarantee 90 days of undo.

Reversal preserves unrelated later changes. If an affected rule has changed again or the reversal would create a loop, it is refused. The preview belongs to the current administrator, site and rule generation and expires after 15 minutes. Review and explicitly confirm the current preview. This reverses rules, not page content, caches, server settings or external effects. Whole-ruleset snapshots and independent backups remain separate.
